The death toll from tropical storm Kammri and subsequent floods has risen to at least 125 in northern Vietnam, with 38 other still listed as missing. Heavy rains followed by flash floods and landslides in Vietnam's northern mountainous provinces that began last week destroyed nearly 800 houses. Some 17,800 other buildings were flooded and damaged while 15,200 hectares (37,500 acres) of crops were wiped out.

2nd GEOSS Asia-Pacific Symposium concludes in Tokyo
The Government of Japan welcomed some 300 scientists and experts from across the Asia-Pacific region to a three-day symposium on new technologies and strategies for monitoring and predicting climate change, assessing and adapting to its expected impacts on biodiversity and water resources, and tracking the carbon cycle. The 2nd Asia-Pacific Symposium on the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) toke place from 14 to 16 April 2008 at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Tokyo.
There is increasing evidence that climate change has a significant role in causing malaria epidemics. With climate conditions changing in the future, due to increased concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, conditions for pests also change. By 2050, the primary Malaria agent, the falciparum malaria parasite, will be able to spread into new areas.
